“How you get an entire sector back on its feet after 18 months of closure is really difficult and we're going to need support for years”-Brad Erickson
In this episode, our featured voice is the Executive Director of Theater Bay Area, Brad Erickson. We wanted to host Theater Bay Area because they are another one of our long-time performing arts organizations that are focused on the incubation and support of the San Francisco Bay Area performing arts ecosystem.
As a response to the Covid-19 pandemic impact on our performing arts workers, Theater Bay Area created the performing arts worker’s fund. To amplify the impact of the Performing Arts Workers' Fund Brad and his team brought together both the Dancers’ Group and InterMusicSF to participate in the performing arts worker’s fund.
Brad Erickson
Brad Erickson has served for 17 years as executive director of Theatre Bay Area (TBA)—one of the nation’s largest regional performing arts service organizations, counting 300 theater companies and nearly 2,000 individual artists as members. Under Brad's tenure, TBA has expanded its programming and enhanced its impact and reputation nationwide. Brad has spearheaded groundbreaking national research initiatives such as “Intrinsic Impact,” focusing on the deeply-felt impact of the art experience, and “Triple Play,” exploring the “triangular relationship” between artists, audiences, and theatre organizations. Partnering with artEquity, Brad led TBA to launch Theatres Advancing Social Change (TASC) an initiative to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in the Bay Area’s theatre sector.
A committed arts advocate, Brad has served for 16 years on the boards of California Arts Advocates and Californians for the Arts. In 2016, Brad received the Alene Valkanas Award for Statewide Advocacy from Americans for the Arts.
Previous to TBA, Brad was the executive director of the Northern California Minority Supplier Development Council, a nonprofit committed to advancing economic equity. Brad is also an award-winning playwright and actor. He received a BFA in Acting from Chicago's Goodman School of Drama (now The Theatre School at DePaul University).

+ Professional opportunities like the TBA General Auditions and the TBA Annual Conference
+ Career Development through our ATLAS program and various panels and networking events
+ The TBA Awards Program recognizes and honors excellence in the professional Bay Area theatre community

“I’m hoping that people will remember how much it means to them to see a show, to go to a live concert, to see a live dance event and how. impoverished we’ve been as much as people have been doing things on screens this year. And it had been really creative with trying to get this up and out. There’s a difference when we’re all together and in the same room and watching things live.
